Daily Mirror launches asbestos campaign
The Daily Mail today launched a campaign to aid those who are being affected by the 'silent and working class epidemic' that is asbestos related disease. Backed by doctors, union chiefs, charities and politicians the Daily Mail is calling for a £10 million investment in a national centre for the study of asbestos related disease.
Today's announcement by the Daily Mail follows on from the HSE's asbestos awareness campaign in the autumn of 2008. Both campaigns have highlighted the huge and rising number of deaths each year due to asbestos related disaese which include Mesothelioma and asbestos related lung cancer. Asbestos disease expert Professor Julian Peto told the Daily Mail that 'the peak in asbestos realted deaths will not be reached until 2025'.
The Daily Mail's campagn is calling for more funds to be spent on researching asbestos related disease to help provide treatment and support for sufferers of asbestos related diseases and their families.
