The simple answer is current asbestos regulations require all non-domestic (work) properties to manage their asbestos risks. First Order Red specialise in delivering effective asbestos management solutions tailored to suit you. As a basic guide, any non-domestic property built before 2000, is legally required to have an asbestos register.
In the home (domestic properties) there are currently no regulations requiring individual home owners to manage asbestos, although ‘duty of care’ does apply where private contractors work on your home. If you are concerned about asbestos in the home please ask the experts.
Asbestos is a hidden killer. You can’t see or smell it in the air around you and the effects of asbestos may take many years to appear. A key factor in the risk of developing asbestos related disease is the total number of asbestos fibres breathed in, which means effective management is critical to minimising long term effects. The three main diseases caused by asbestos are mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis. All three of which won’t effect you immediately but may occur later in life
If you are concerned about asbestos related mesothelioma, lung cancer or asbestosis please contact the Health and Safety Executive or your local health service for further advice.
Asbestos has been used as a building material in the UK up until the year 2000. In any properties built before the year 2000 there is a duty to manage asbestos through an asbestos register and an asbestos management plan.
Some of the places you may find asbestos include asbestos cement products, textured coatings, floor tiles, textiles, composites, sprayed coatings, lagging, insulating board and loose in ceilings or floor cavities. For further information please contact the Health and safety Executive or ask the experts.
Asbestos is scary and First Order Red takes our responsibilities very seriously. In helping our customers manage their asbestos risks effectively we hope we are helping protect people now and in the future.
You are mostly at risk of exposure to asbestos when it is damaged or disturbed. This is particularly important when any building or maintenance work is being carried out near asbestos containing materials.
As long as the asbestos is not damaged or located somewhere where it can be easily damaged it is unlikely to be a risk to you and your staff.
First Order Red is here to help. If you have any questions about asbestos management, asbestos regulations or our asbestos services please ask the experts.
